Do you feel hopeful and optimistic that today is the day you’re going to get a new lead?
After all, all that “connecting” ought to lead to something, right?
That’s exactly what Joe was thinking!
Joe is involved in nearly 20 Facebook groups, 15 Google Plus groups, he maxed out his LinkedIn Groups at 50 and he is just sharing his articles and products and services everywhere he can.
But he’s not stopping there!
He’s also doing Facebook parties and picking up new fans to his Facebook page and Twitter pages.
He’s picking lots of traffic to his website and gaining new followership that are leaving comments on his blog each month.
It’s exciting! It’s growth!
Just watching his numbers climb was left him feeling like he was accomplishing something that was leading to the end result… lots of sales as the traffic picks up to his website from his social efforts.
He’s excited and he’s hopeful!!!
But after several months or maybe even a year, Joe began to get discouraged and frustrated as he continued to put in a tremendous amount of work, time and effort to reach an audience where people would need his products and services.
“What the heck! Don’t these people get it? Why aren’t they buying? It seems they are buying what I sell from people a lot less qualified to help them and me.”
His new friends simply weren’t buying. Sure, they commented on his blog and shared his content on their social media sites. But their purpose for doing so was not aligned with his; they simply wanted the same thing Joe wanted and they never had any intention of really listening to what Joe had to say and Joe certainly wasn’t listening to what they had to say.
They were too busy just trying to build up numbers that looked impressive.
Numbers are important, no question about it. But the question Joe has to ask himself is this;
“Am I purposefully attracting the right people who are able, willing and ready to buy or those who serve the same audience I do but in a different way?”
Numbers for the sake of numbers may inflate the impression of success. But I have a slightly different twist on what to look for within the numbers and where to look for the right numbers.
