Why My Business Tripled in Just Six Weeks!

Author : , Date : July 27, 2015

Have you ever just taken time away from your business to do other things? Last week I did just that and it was a great time to pause, reflect and think forward.

The last six weeks has been phenomenal and in many ways the bounce in my business left me wondering what happened. Too many of us only stop to reflect when things go wrong but what about when things go rapidly right?

When I wrote the article last December titled “How My Marketing Strategies in 2014 Positioned Me for Explosive Growth in 2015” I had no idea of how many incredible things would happen.

Evaluation and measurement is a great thing and so today I’m going to briefly share with you the results over the last six months I’ve gotten and how I got them.

Then, I’m going to share some ideas with you from my time last week reflecting and thinking about the rest of this year and where things are headed.

Many of these ideas will be very applicable to you and I hope you can draw some ideas of conclusions from them that will serve you as well.

What were My Initial Strategies and How Did They Work Out?

One thing I learned a long time ago is that Clarity and Focus work together to create Execution.

Clarity + Focus = Execution

Clarity is a process that never really ends, although it gets progressively easier. Clarity is the heart of your business and where your message is at.

Focus is where the delivery of the message is strategized and where specific and measurable goals and objectives are created to fulfill a strategy.

Execution is where the execution of the tasks or objectives takes place. This is where you see the strategy in action!

I know, I tend to focus on clarity a lot because it’s the critical foundation and the difference between failure and success for any business; unless you’re the rare company that is very fortunate.

But today I’m not going to talk about clarity; I’m going to share some of my strategies that are making a HUGE difference for me and may for you as well.

As a reference, in my article titled “How My Marketing Strategies in 2014 Positioned Me For Explosive Growth in 2015” I shared some of the strategies I would employ in 2015 and here is how some of them turned out:

  • Expand upon connecting with influencers who are business bloggers and business journalists who blog: Not only did I meet individual influencers, but I also made a great partner in SEMrush.com –I have written several blogs for them and I was also on two webinars.
  • Guest Blogging; In the first quarter of 2015 I contributed over 20 guest posts and the results were not what I was hoping for when contrasted with the amount of work I put into it. Much of the results were due to where I was contributing and the fact that the audiences in many of the blogs were not my primary audience. However, when I wrote for Adrienne Smith in June 2015 her audience rocked my world!!!! It was phenomenal the response I got.
  • I wrote one eBook – far short of my initial goal of one per month. However, “The Shift – the Fast Pace Transition from Mass Marketing to Context Marketing” exploded onto the scene and is just now really gaining a lot of attention. While eBooks are a great strategy I learned they are definitely not a short-term strategy. But, done right they can have a profound impact on your authority and reputation.

New Strategies I Implemented Along the Way

There were a couple of huge things that did happen along the way and the moral of this story is to remain flexible and always have a learning spirit to find out what works for you and what doesn’t.

I did two things that were game changers for me:

  1. I introduced very clear images as call to actions.
  2. I started a Facebook Group titled “Market, Grow, Succeed”.
  3. I started doing webinars in June 2015.

I will say that webinar titled “The 5 Step Formula to Attract Your Audience Online, Increase Revenue and Position Your Business for Success!” was a HUGE difference maker for me, both on my site and on SEMrush. I wondered why suddenly so many wanted consultations and my close rate was nearly 90% on those consultations from those who attended the webinar. The content isn’t anything new when you compare what you read in my blog or hear in my podcasts.

So, I started doing survey’s afterwards and even reached out to some attendees personally. Here is what I discovered in my non-scientific survey:

  • The audience coming to the webinar had never read my blog or listened to a podcast by a margin of 5 to 1. This was a very new audience.
  • They felt me differently than they could in a blog or podcast… meaning they can hear and feel my passion and interact with me through the chat.
  • They could hear and sense that I knew what I was talking about and they were engaged with the flow and content of the webinar.
  • They felt more engaged with the video and audio presentation over just a blog article.
  • They were more committed to the learning process over an hour long in-person training than through just reading a blog.
  • Here is the BIG ONE: They understood exactly what I was offering and how much it costs and wanted to learn more about my services. In a sense they were pre-qualified when they said yes in a poll.

The end result is that I’m earning an average to three sales per week from each webinar.

Does that mean I’m going to stop creating content in these formats?

They are a different lead source and the truth is my blog and podcast are still babies at 15 months and 6 months respectively. These tools take time to cultivate and require serious relationship building.

Some Other Lessons Learned

In addition to the webinars, I’ve also learned a few bits of information that I believe will skyrocket my online success and can yours as well.

Starting next week you will begin seeing some different things on my blog. For one, you will begin seeing more options to download some free and amazing content.

For Example, I experimented with this idea in the article titled “How Can I Find the Right Web Designer for My Business?

web-design-process-kitIn it I offered those who want to find a reputable web designer a “Web Design Questionnaire PDF Kit” to help them find the right web designer for their business.

It includes three free downloads:

  1. A survey that you can ask to help gather information about how people view your site and interact with it.
  2. A web design interview process document.
  3. The third is a complete list of questions that you can use when interviewing a web designer or web design firm.

The PDF’s have been downloaded over 300 times since April 13, 2015 to date. These are all new potential leads but the problem is I didn’t finish the process.

Now, I’m adding a way that people can buy a highly valuable tool from me immediately after getting the free download for as little as $5.00.

The sales funnel is finally being finished. How much money have I lost? Well, enough to motivate me after reflection, lol… In fact, the real money is in moving them through the sales funnel to my coaching or consulting but I’m also working on a as-you-go video training series.

The point is that with every article moving forward I will be offering a highly valuable free gift.

The one lesson I learned is that I fell for one of the greatest content marketing myths out there:

No it won’t!

We all have to become clearer and more strategically intentional about giving people a reason to buy from us.

Moving Forward

How will I increase my leads, revenues and profits?

Here are a few of my strategies moving forward:

  • I will be adding new webinar series. Here is a short list of titles coming soon:
    • Blue Print of Highly Successful Websites
    • The 48 Hour Website
    • Did You Waste $10K on a Website that Doesn’t Work for You?
    • How to Create Killer Call-to-Actions that Convert
    • How to Get 500 Subscribers to Your Blog Fast
    • Discover Your Real Passions and Explode Your Sales
  • I’m working on a new eBook – more on that another day…
  • Offer my audience a reason to download something for free that will help them immediately.
  • I’m going to create a fun bi-weekly blog with my Pembroke Welsh Corgi called “Samson Says…” It will be a fresh, entertaining view of how Samson see’s the world through a dog’s eyes in a simple and fun way and still helps your business grow.
  • I will be re-doing my entire video blog to include a page for each video with a transcript and a short video at least two times per week.

There you have it, some ways my business has exploded and yours can as well.

As you can see, I’ve got some major work to do on my site this week to make it a little simpler and easier for you to find what you are looking for and are interested in; as well as creating all of the unique things you can download for free like the Web Design Questionnaire Kit.

I’m going to ignore my own advice this week and not offer you a call-to-action this week. Hey, at least I’m telling you intentionally, lol… Next week, you’ll start seeing some exciting changes and I can’t wait to tell you how it worke in another six months from now.

If you have a thought, idea or comment you would like to share please leave it below in the comments and let’s talk. I would love to hear from you!!!!

  1. Hello Don,

I heard about you for the first time through Kevin who made reference to you in his ‘howdy neighbor technique’ at ‘be a better blogger dot com’. When Chioma referred to you too, I didn’t need any conviction to become a loyal follower.

I love the fact you were very precise in the information you dished out. For instance you didn’t just say that a guest post did wonders for you, you mentioned that it was Adrienne’s blog that did the magic. I appreciate that.

I am glad you were able to achieve a lot of the things you set out to achieve. And your strategic planning has definitely paid off. Maybe I should take a break equally so as to get better clarity, especially this summer.

Great job Don. I have not tried pod casts or videos before, but I hope to try them out with time since they seem to generate a lot of results.

Thanks for sharing your secrets Don, and yes I am looking forward to reading your new book

    1. Hi Toby,

That’s awesome! Both Kevin and Chioma are good people and are deeply gifted communicators in their own rights.

I’m excited that you are considering reading my blog on a regular basis. I would be delighted to welcome you into the regular community.

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment, read, share and engage with me on not one, but two articles.

I hope you have an awesome week!

      ~ Don

  2. I love this! I have always said that without planning, there is no destination. And you just proved it. Granted, no one can plan everything to the ts, but when you plan, you are able to measure results and determine what works and what doesn’t and therefore the next steps to take.
You are absolutely right that just creating content is not enough! You have to give people a reason to buy from you. You have to have a plan (which should be flexible) and you have to be focused about achieving the set targets of that plan. Not easy but definitely is the difference between a successful and bland blog. So sharing this post in my next article.
Congrats on the strides you have made and I look forward to seeing more positive results from you.

    1. Hi Chioma,

Thank you so much for your kind words and validation!

      Clarity + Focus = Execution

It all starts with clarity and if you’re clear about what business you’re “really” in then focusing via strategies and goals makes executing at an efficient and valuable message with results possible.

Thank you so much for sharing with me that you will including the article in your next blog article. I immensely appreciate that!

      Have an awesome weekend Chioma!

      ~ Don

  3. Thanks Don, for sharing these great insights. Here’s a question for you: Has it always been easy for you to have clarity and focus? I ask because that had probably been my biggest challenge..

    1. Hi Dan,

I’m so glad you liked the article and found some of my insights helpful.

      Great question!!!!!

Yes, it has always come easy for me. In the military I had a lot leadership training around vision, mission and message. Plus, I have been a big reader of successful businessmen like Jack Welch, Howard Schultz, Donald Trump and Jim Collins.

I learned a little from each one about the success of business combined with my own successes and failures. In the failures is where I discovered most of my realizations.

After working with hundreds of businesses over the last ten years it is painfully obvious where most businesses struggle. When I look at the problems I’m passionate about solving:

      * Helping small business become the great engine driver of our economy again;
      * Helping business owners and entrepreneurs understand the formula for success so that failure is minimized and they become strong economic engines and leaders in their communities

I can see how what I’m passionate about is vital to what I do and how I message to an audience that is hungry for those solutions. Everything flows from that.

I will say this Dan; for the overwhelming majority of people they will never be able to gain clarity on their own. They need help. So, I’m not surprised that it’s been a major challenge for you. If you’re interested I would love to chat with you; FOR FREE!

Please feel free to email me at don@unveiltheweb.com if you’re interested.

      Have an awesome week Dan!

  4. Hi Don,

I hadn`t initially planned to read any blog posts today. However, when I looked at your headline, I thought: “Hey, I`m so glad that Don is crushing it, I got to see what his latest activities are.”

I have now read your whole blog post and all the comments.

I love to see fellow hard working entrepreneurs GET RESULTS.

What I really admire about you, Don, besides you being a really likeable guy, is that you test lot of different strategies and then you modify as you go…

Too many people spend too much time reading a gazillion of different tips.

    And what happens?

Most likely they will be come paralyzed by over-analysis, and then procrastination monster will get to them.

The best antidote against procrastination is ACTION.

When you have clarity and focus, and then execute massive action, you will get a lot of experience FAST.

Then you can easily continue with the strategies that work well, and remove those don`t give you a good enough ROI.

I am so glad that you are doing well, my friend.

    You really deserve it!

My subscribers have increased A LOT after I started adding good content upgrades to blog posts and doing guest posts on big blogs with the right audience.

    To you success!

    Onward 😉

    1. Hi Tor,

Thank you so much for the kind words and for such a great comment!!!!

Clarity is the driver of EVERYTHING we do in business. The reason so many are wandering, struggling and not getting results is because they keep putting the cart before the horse and then they wonder all over the place.

I love this line in your comment: “Most likely they will be come paralyzed by over-analysis, and then procrastination monster will get to them.”

The thing is if skip clarity and do research and run straight to strategies it all looks good. But, the truth is there is only so much one should do and what one does ought to fall in line with their clarity.

I appreciate your well thought out comment Tor. I hope you have an awesome week!

      ~ Don

  5. Hi Don,

CONGRATULATIONS on your business explosion, tripling it in just 6 weeks!! 🙂

I guess a Webinar can create a tremendous impact on those audience even though they haven’t even seen or read your blog. You can hit all the angle in varieties of execution by introducing your audience to different platforms.

As for me, I have done videos but not podcast yet. First thing first, right? I need to be CLEAR with my business first. Then FOCUS. And then EXECUTION will come at hand when you know exactly what your business is all about.

…and so now you’re gonna be very busy! Eventually, you’re gonna need a Virtual Assistant who can help you with your business. *LOL* Aaaaaahhhhh…this is wonderful. It’s good to see your progress. You are a true inspiration to us, bloggers. And I cannot wait to work with you on a one-to-one basis.

Looking forward to your upcoming PDF and the FREE downloads. May God bless you you more and keep you. I’ll see you next week. Have a cool and wonderful weekend.

    1. Hi Angela,

The webinars have been HUGE! In fact, I’m going to re-introduce them this week with a podcast and promote them through August and start them back up right after Labor Day. I’m looking forward to it!!!!!

I think you’re right about your identity and message. Once you get there then podcasting may server you really well. But, it does take time to grow that audience.

I did include the pdf downloads in yesterday’s blog article. I hope you’ll check it out: http://www.unveiltheweb.com/articles/how-hire-right-web-designer-and-avoid-major-disaster/

I’m excited we are working together now and I know you’re going to grow leaps and bounds in the next month!

Get ready because your journey of discovery is about to begin.

      Have a great week!

      ~ Don

  6. Hey Don,

Great post and great achievements. I remember reading that other post yo mentioned, ““How My Marketing Strategies in 2014 Positioned Me for Explosive Growth in 2015” and was interested to see what you’d accomplish, and you nearly did all of them. Hats off to you for that.

Regarding the guest posting, yea, that’s the issue. You have to write posts on blogs that your audience is on. Otherwise, you’ll just be writing another post and reap no benefits or rewards.

I’m very interested in doing a podcast again. Now that my schedule is more or less free (due to me not having to publish every week) I may seriously consider it. That and maybe video, but I can’t seem to find proper editing software. Maybe it’s a sign.

    – Andrew

    1. Hi Andrew,

It has been a very interesting ride the last six months or so. Evaluating and re-evaluating is so much for me and learning some new ideas and strategies is always exciting. One thing I didn’t mention in the article that I may come back to in the future is how much my audience has grown over the last six months. I think there is a lot to be said for attracting an audience that keeps coming back around.

There are so many ways to grow a blog and guest blogging can be a big deal IF I can get write for the appropriate blog but I really do have to be picky. Some who have invited me are not going to like it when I say I’m not available right now but that’s okay. I think they will understand.

Podcasts are soooo much fun for me. In fact, I think they are much easier than blogs but it’s also a training / personality thing for me. I think fast and it allows me to explore my thoughts in a different media that I enjoy.

I sense you’ll do really well podcasting as well Andrew but just like blogging it takes some time to build that audience.

Regarding software try Audacity. It’s free and easy to use. You can record straight into it and edit it as well.

Have an awesome week Andrew and thank you so much for commenting and sharing!

      ~ Don

  7. Hello Don,

Congrats on your achievements! Taking a break can really be helpful. Sometimes that’s when some of our best ideas come. This is very encouraging! Thanks for sharing this with us!

    1. Hi Maketta,

Thank you! I appreciate your kind words. Yes, taking a break is a really BIG deal and I’m going to be taking a few more through August. Watch out, that means more is coming, lol….

      Have a great weekend Maketta!

      ~ Don

  8. Hi Don,

I had to take a week off to for personal reasons last week and I see you took a week off to reflect on your business.

Thank you Don for sharing your results over the last 6 months with all of us.

    Clarity+ Focus = Execution
I am learning these things through your coaching and am grateful for your patience.

You have been very busy doing the first podcast for SEMrush.com, and writing two blog posts for them plus doing the webinars, guest blogging and writing your own posts too. I am truly amazed.

The Shift is an awesome book that everyone should read.

I knew your webinars would be a success and made me a customer and your coaching is incredible. You have a way of pulling things out of me which is exactly what I need.

You really do have a lot going on in your life and the information you are sharing is amazing and helping so many of us to grow.

You have a wonderful rest of the week!

    1. Hi Linda,

Walking away for a little while can be such a good thing to reflect, dream and prepare to move forward. I really enjoyed it and the truth is for now until Labor Day I’m kinda on auto pilot a little bit while I’m making some of the transitions I shared in the article.

See what clarity will do… it opens you up to being able to do a lot of different things at one time that all support and help one another because the focus came from the right foundation.

You are so kind to mention my book and thank you so much for the book review on Amazon. I just saw it today and I so appreciate it!!!!

You are doing a great job and it’s my joy to coach you and help you along your journey of discovery!

I hope you have an awesome end to your week!

      ~ Don

  9. Hi Don,

Tripling business in 3 weeks. Can I do that I thought? AND I was in reading . . .

I’ve never ever taken time off to celebrate or reflect on the successes of my Internet business model. After reading your introduction I believe that this is something that I will inject into my life, starting immediately. It’s worth it.

Clarity + Focus = Execution. This makes a ton of sense.

That said, I must admit there have been times when I’ve executed cheerfully without clarity and focus, perhaps largely just for having something to do. I honestly need to learn to sit still sometime and read a book or just be quiet for a while. Ah well . . .

    The four strategies you’ve mentioned:
    1) Reach out to influencers and connect
    2) Start a podcast on topics that add measurable value to your listeners
    3) Guest Blog
    4) Write and publish an EBook

Everyone of these are without a shred of doubt, capable of engaging and expanding a focused audience which has a very pleasant and positive effect on business income.

The new strategies you’ve done such as:
    1) Using images for your Call To Actions
    2) Creating and growing a Facebook group
    3) Running webinars
Are all great support strategies for any eBusiness model.

I use all of these techniques myself and – They work.

I loved the way you shared your experiences after your webinar titled:
The 5 Step Formula to Attract Your Audience Online, Increase Revenue and Position Your Business for Success!

Each bullet content (almost) mirrors experiences I’ve had while building my digital marketing and consulting business here in India. The content of the bullets deliver some fantastic truth and a whole load of learning.

This is a beautifully educative Blog post Don. You are blessed with a superb writing style.

    1. Hi Ivan,

Thanks so much for reading and sharing your summary of my article; and for sharing the impact of it upon your thoughts.

I sincerely appreciate your kind words and I’m wowed by your incredible comment!!!!

      Thanks again so much!!!!!!

      ~ Don

  10. Hey, Don, that’s a phenomenal rate of success!

It seems that everything combined to make you much more real in peoples’ lives. The podcasts and the webinars make it all so immediate. I’m amazed that so many people went straight to the webinar without knowing you on your blog, it sounds like an exceptional platform.

The other thing that jumped out at me was that the free downloads are going to be *immediately* useful. It really seems that getting it *now* is the way to go.

I get that it all starts with clarity and focus, I’ve got that implanted in my brain 🙂

    Thanks for this!

    1. Hi Donald,

Thanks so much! I was a little surprised as well and the sales results from the webinar have been phenomenal. I believe it has a lot to do with the flow and that people know exactly what they get and what it costs before the end of the webinar.

The “immediate” is something that people want. Unfortunately, we live in a “now” society and if we can give them something that makes a difference for them now it continues to enhance our competency and credibility.

I so appreciate you comment Donald!!!

      ~ Don

  11. This is such an inspiring review Don! I’m also glad you reminded me about SEMRush. I did see you were giving a couple of webinars with them and so CONGRATULATIONS, albeit a little late. I love your authenticity in being flexible, and ignoring your own advice! Indeed that works well together.

Can you tell us how to you decide to experiment, and with what? That’s sometimes a question in many of us entrepreneurial spirits.

    1. Hi Patricia,

Thank you so much! SEMrush.com is awesome and they’ve been a great partner. I’m deeply blessed and honored by them and the webinars both on my own platform and as a guest on theirs has been HUGE!

I learned a long time ago that if I’m not honest with myself and where I’m at and where I’ve come from then I’m only cheating myself. You learn through the honesty of each experience, right?

I wasn’t ready to launch a new agenda this week and I wanted to be honest and acknowledge it; but be ready next week because from that point forward it’s coming!

To answer your question, and it’s a really good one; I choose to experiment based on a number of factors:

      1. Based on previous experiences over 10 years combined with research of new ideas or technologies, or technologies I’ve yet to use.

      2. How are my current marketing strategies working and which ones need more time and which ones ought to go?

      3. How saturated is a given strategy I’m contemplating experimenting with?

      4. Does it make sense for my audience?

As you may know, I do a lot of reading and researching every week and that plays a role in it as well.

I hope that concisely answers your question Patricia.

Thanks again so much for your comment! I hope you have an awesome weekend.

      ~ Don

  12. Hello Don, Wow my friend! YOU are ROCKING IT! Clarity! Oh Yeh YOU Have it! I just love how you have put everything together Congrats! I do need to follow your lead.

    Keep up the great work..

    Chery :))

    1. Hi Chery,

Thanks so much for your acknowledgement and kind words! I’m deeply honored and blessed.

The future is bright and we’re just getting started!

Have an awesome weekend Chery and thank you so much again!

      ~ Don

  13. Hi Don!
So I am on vacation with my husband and NO child, vowing to stay off the internet…..see how that is going for me!! I took an email peek on my phone this morning and ended up reading this wonderful blog post and was so compelled to reply that I had to turn my computer on!!

As you know, it appears I’ve dropped off the map the past few months ….though in all honesty, it’s only because most who know me from online are looking at the wrong map. So when I read your well detailed explanation of what has been working for you and not working and exploding your business, I practically was saying out loud “Yes Don, Yes!!”.

One of your strengths is to take what you experience and define it in a simply laid out format for others to be able to learn from and follow if they so desire. You did that in the post so very well..not only listing the actions and results, but the understanding of why those actions yielded those results. This should serve as both a great inspiration to others to dissect their own business process and growth (or not growth) in a similar manner, and to possibly use some of your experiences to help their own process.

I am so impressed with what you’ve created over the time I’ve known you, and particularly the “light on your feet” manner of experimenting and shifting as you consistently measure what’s working and what’s not. I’ve had similar results to you in areas you speak of this article, along with some other “stealth” (LOL) methods. But you, my friend, have a great brilliance in seizing situations and running hard with them, consistently and strongly, that goes beyond! I am so thrilled for you!!

Thank you for so eloquently sharing your ideas with us!
I will now turn off the computer and get back to my vacation with my husband!

    1. Hi Deborah,

WOW! Thank you so much for taking a vacation from your vacation to vacation on my article, lol… 🙂

It’s great that you’re looking at options and strategies that help your business; for some the internet isn’t everything and in fact if not thought through and intentionally planned and executed can be a serious distraction to a business.

I so appreciate all of your kind words and I’m so grateful for your friendship and partnership!!!!!

I hope you have an awesome vacation and let’s connect when you return. It’s been a long time since we chatted last.

      Have a great weekend!!!!!

      ~ Don

  14. Hey Don, first of all many congratulations on what you’ve achieved, what an inspiration you are. I’m really excited about your journey, always love seeing fellow business colleagues / bloggers doing well and sharing their story. You have put in an extraordinary amount of hard work and one of the things that I notice is that you’re everywhere these days, good for you.

I couldn’t agree more with you on clarity, I’ve certainly learned that knowing “why” you’re inspired and passionate about doing great things, like creating content, connecting with influencers and helping people find solutions to their problems and so on is so important. Clarity has helped me stay focused on completing my eBook “Guide To Smarter Blogging” and I’m just in the process of updating another one this week.

Continue to grow and inspire us Don, thanks for all you do.

Have a great rest of the week – Fabrizio

    1. Hi Fabrizio,

Thank you, I appreciate your kind words! This journey is just getting started and starting to pick-up steam. It’s an exciting time ahead!!!

Gaining clarity is THE single most important thing one can do for their business. I’m excited for you as well and I know great things are ahead for you Fabrizio!

Have a great week as well.

  15. Hey Don,
One of the things I learned from this post is this: to become an online success, one needs to provide value consistently.

This can be seen with the different strategies you have employed to become an authority.

Also, there is the element of hard work and determination. Hard work pays off and this has made your business triple.

The details on what happened after your webinar promotion should be replicated. Its interesting to note that new audiences responded more than existing audiences.

Congratulations on the success of your increase!

I left the above comment in kingged.com as well

    1. Hi Sunday,

Great takeaway from the article; consistency is extremely important to success both online and offline.

Like I have said; some content marketing strategies are more long term and others offer more immediate results. The webinars have been AMAZING! I’m looking forward to coming up with more.

I think we are in a culture where people value LIVE interaction via video/audio over written ones. As I think about it we view and hear differently that we read. People who read today skim articles on the web and as a result I wonder if a blog loses impact short-term due to the drastic difference in experience?

Not that it’s not a GREAT tool because it is but I think it’s more of a long-term one that has more competition for eyeballs. Just a thought…

      Have an awesome week.

      ~ Don

  16. Congratulations Don! You are killin it!

I admire how much work you are putting it. It’s awesome to see you grow your blog and business!

Appreciate you sharing your experiences so far! Lots more in store for you my friend. Can’t wait to hear about them soon!

    1. Hi Dennis,

Thank you for taking a few minutes of your time to read my article and share your thoughts! I appreciate your encouragement and I’m looking forward to sharing in 6 months the growth!

      Have an awesome week Dennis.

      ~ Don

  17. Hey Don,

Wow, I’m really impressed with all the work and careful planning you’re doing for your business. I can definitely see why your business has exploded within that length of time. You sound like the hardest working man in the blogosphere/solopreneur scene.

But as you mentioned it all comes doing to clarity. Yes it’s true that this process never stops as we all progress forward. The more you work smarter, the more streamlining you do for your business. Thanks for sharing Don! You’ve given me some ideas!

    1. Hi Sherman,

No question that it requires work and effort. It comes back to passion; why are we doing what we are doing and what is the motive behind it. It’s not really hard work when what you do is what you love. The results are just the reward.

I’m happy I could offer you some ideas and hope that it helps you immensely!!!!

      ~ Don

  18. Hi Don,

I just admire the way you carefully executed your business model from the first time I met you. To me you are the “Clarity Guy” lol. You have grown your business in such a short time and you keep on going. I do believe the turning point is webinars.

When I first started doing them, I calculated who was there and who did what in my sales funnel. Long story short, they were mostly people that never visited my blog. If they didn’t join in at first, a larger percentage joined my business later on at a higher price…. Hmm….

That’s the beauty of a webinar coupled with a sales funnel – all carefully planned of course. People love to see other people and a webinar does that trick. The KLT factor is amazing. Then as we go along with carefully selected emails, relationships begin.

I’m so happy for you and glad you took a break for a week. It was well deserved and now you are coming back to even more heightened levels.

    1. Hi Donna,

I can’t tell you how much your kind words encourage me as someone I deeply respect!

Webinars seem to be the real deal for me. Not that the other content marketing tools are not but they are slower converting. That’s okay; I think having different ways of reaching different audiences at different speeds is really important and often very neglected. Too many of us are trying to get to the money too fast and are shortchanging ourselves.

Of course, the other side of that is we are in business to make money so I do understand and even sometimes feel the tension myself. So, not judging anyone just clarifying that different funnels that bring in different people over time is a great thing.

That week off was so needed; so more time is coming and with August being crazy I have to really manage my time well so that I don’t burn out, lol…

Have an awesome week Donna and thank you again!!!!

      ~ Don

  19. Don,

I am glad that everything has worked out for you and that your business has been growing tremendously. I am glad that you shared this information with us. I have been looking for new ways to grow my audience and now I think I will give webinars a shot. I have heard about them before, but now that you have spoken a little more about it, I think I will try it. Webinars can be like podcasting in a way but podcasts usually arent live and people can’t see you.

As you mentioned above, I think clarity is one of the biggest things for a business. You have to have clarity for it also increases productivity.

    1. Hi Lawrence,

Webinars have been amazing! I will say this though, you have to have a clear strategy and you must have an incredible flow for them.

It took me twelve hours to come up with the flow for mine and then refine it:

      I. Welcome

II. My story as an entrepreneur

III. The problems my clients thought they had vs. the real problems

      IV. Case Study

      IV. Call-to-Action

      V. Close

It’s a lot more detailed than that but if you don’t get the flow right then people won’t follow and definitely won’t buy.

If you want to see it, there is a picture of my flow chart and process on how I did it in this article: http://www.unveiltheweb.com/articles/7-reasons-businesses-are-wildly-successful-online-marketing/

Just wanted to throw that out there and hope it helps!

      Have a great week Lawrence.

  20. Hey Don,

You are doing a lot here! .. way to go man!

I think clarity is one of the most important keys to building a successful business, either online or offline. You need to be very crystal clear on everything that you want to accomplish and work on. I would say that without taking the time to be very clear with everything that you must do, to accomplish your goals, you could get lost and frustrated very easily.

You gotta put clear intentions out. And that will help you do the right type of work to get the right outcome.

And I agree with you about that advice; “just keep creating more content and it will all workout”. When I first started working on building a blog, wanting to make money from it, I followed the advice of blogging daily. And publishing blog posts left and right. That was very bad advice!

I have learned a lot ever since then. And I was fortunate to come across very successful bloggers online, who told me that they have built their successful blog with just 2 to 3 blog posts a month!! … that made me question, what is going on here?

I have realized that the people telling me to blog every single day, to get more traffic, leads and sales, are the one who are still not very successful with their blogs!

Anyways … great post with valuable tips!

    Keep up the great work!

    Have a fantastic week!

    1. Hi Freddy,

Yep, if a business not clear about “what business you are “really” in” then that business will struggle 95% of the time, unless like I said they get lucky and that does rarely happen.

That’s a great point about listening to people who perceive to be successful telling us what to do and yet the fruit isn’t really there in their own business. It unfortunately takes time to weed them out and I think that’s one of the reasons why the webinars have been so good for me as I mentioned in the article.

I so appreciate you comment Freddy and thank you so much for such a great contribution!!!

      ~ Don

  21. Hi Don, and welcome back!

Boy, you certainly worked your butt off and it’s paid off, and I’m so happy for you. You really deserve it.

Clarity, focus and action are so important, and I don’t see how one can succeed in any business without these.

I also have taken some actions for my business and some are still in the process.

For one thing, like you guest blogging has been rather disappointing for me, but as you mentioned it was because they were not blogs of my market. I am totally convinced of that now, that’s why I’m not going to do that anymore.

Now, however, I’m focusing only on biggies/targeted that will bring me results. At the very least, with traffic.

I’m now a contributor of Chamber of Commerce and my first article should be published in August. After that, I have big guest projects which I hope will bring me targeted clients. At least that’s the goal.

I’ve just published a short book through Smashwords and will actually publish it on Amazon as well. I’ve already made a few sales in less than a week (just on Smashwords), so that’s a start. More eBooks will be coming too.

Thank you for inspiring business owners like me, and I’m sure your success will be getting better and better by the minute. I have to give myself a pat on the back for seeing that in you from the moment I met you online (smile).

    1. Hi Sylviane,

I’m really excited for you and I’ve been noticing some shifts you’ve been making over the last few months.

Guest blogging can be powerful but it has to be the right audience. Adrienne’s blog just did something for me that no other blog has done; and SEMrush has been a MASSIVE hit when I participate on their webinars.

I’m a member of the Lancaster Chamber but I have been kinda slow to jump onboard. Mostly due to my businesses but that isn’t really a good reason. I just need to make it a priority and in the near future I certainly will.

Well, I suppose you give yourself that pat, lol… but it’s people like you and my clients that make this all worth it!

Thanks so much again for your generous words and for commenting.

      Have a great week Sylviane.

      ~ Don

  22. Wow Don,

Since I’ve had the honor of working with you I KNOW how dedicated and driven you are which I think more people need to be. You’re more interested in finding out what works and what doesn’t so you’re always testing different things out to see how you can improve upon what you’re doing.

I know that the webinars have been successful for you and I’m thrilled to hear that your guest post on my blog brought you a lot of attention as well. I know that it definitely woke a lot of people up and they had plenty of “aha” moments themselves. Hope it brought you some customers too. (((wink wink)))

I’m excited for you, you deserve everything you have coming to you my friend. I couldn’t be happier for you and I’m eager to see the new downloads you’re have for us moving forward and know that anything you offer us will be well worth our time.

Thank you for the mention by the way and again, I’m SO happy for you Don. You deserve the VERY best.

Have a splendid and productive week.

    1. Hi Adrienne,

Thank you so much for your compliment and very kind words. It’s definitely an exciting time. It’s interesting because what works for one may not work for another. SO many factors can go into it; skill set, personality, audience, etc.

That’s why I’m a big believe in doing several things if you can and if it makes sense for you and especially for your audience; ie blog, video, podcast, webinars, ebooks, etc…

You are so welcome on the mention and thank you for giving me the opportunity to share on your blog! It was my best experience yet!!!!!!

I hope you have an awesome week Adrienne!

      ~ Don

      1. You are SO right Don, there are so many factors that go into this. That’s why I help my clients based on what it is at the time that they are having issues with. This isn’t a one size fits all scenario.

You’re right, provide numerous ways for them to see or hear your content and let that be their choice.

I’m trying touched that your guest post on my blog has been your best experience yet. You just made my month! Thank you for sharing that with me Don.

        1. I love your philosophy and in the near future I’m looking forward to pulling you into a few projects like we talked about a few months ago that I am courting right now that I know could use you; and one is a pretty big company.

I am so grateful for the generous introduction you allowed me to make to your audience. I will never take that for granted and I hope that your future guests don’t either because it’s a special experience!!!!

          ~ Don
